Crystal Infused Morning Ginger Lemonade

Friday has marked the Fall Equinox, the day we entered into the darker and colder period of the year on the Northern Hemisphere. Just as the nature around us, we are also making a turn inward, quieting our activities, redirecting our strengths into the core and starting the inner journey of introspection.

At the junctures of seasons our body gives us a big and often uncomfortable wake up call to help it ease the shifts in the environment. After a hot summer, a lot of movement, relaxed vacations, late nigh activities, outdoor gatherings and more outward energy in general, September brings colder temperatures, breezy winds, and damp weather as usual fall stressors for the body. As the fast, active and enthusiastic pace shifts it brings anxiety, nervousness and uncomfortable lightness with a somewhat overwhelming feeling. Our skin, slowly looses its summer dazzling glow, now looking dry and pale, our hair becomes cracked and lustrous, and the digestive system looses its strength resulting in indigestion disturbances such as constipation, flatulence and loss of appetite. The period of Vata dominance is stepping on stage. Even if you don’t experience any significant discomfort now, prevention is what matters most. In the manifestation of a disease, symptoms come later on the scale, warning us of a serious battle going on inside.

By aligning ourselves with the upcoming season, allowing our – often overworking –  digestive system to have a break and renew its strength, the body will respond with radiant health, vitality and joy. Each season will become enjoyable and beneficial for our overall health.

Welcoming the Fall with it’s abundant harvested gifts of apples, pears, beets, squashes and green beans, we have a great opportunity for deeper cleansing. One of the amazing rituals whose benefits can be seen already after a couple of days is morning hydration with warm water and a squeeze of lemon juice. Taken first when you wake up, it helps alkalize, cleanse and refresh your entire body. Over the years my morning ritual has evolved and now my days start with this wonderful crystal infused ginger lemonade I share the recipe here with you. At this time of year when our skin, hair and nails crave for hydration and renewal it becomes even more beneficial. Taken on an empty stomach the ginger lemonade hydrates the body, brings alertness, refreshes and gently wakes up the digestive system. It promotes bowel movements, supports the liver cleanse and flushes accumulated toxins.

Crystals have a powerful and healing energy. When placed in water, the water itself will absorb the properties of the crystal, becoming healing as well. The crystal infused water is made simply by placing a crystal in a pitcher filled with water allowing to sit for a couple of hours or even overnight. After the crystal has been taken out, the energized water can be consumed throughout the day.

CRYSTAL INFUSED MORNING ELIXIR

Ingredients:
Crystal infused water, *optional, or plain water
1-2 slices of ginger
half a lemon or lime, juiced
1/2 a teaspoon honey or rice syrup, if desired

Bring the water to a boil. In a big glass pour the boiling water over ginger slices and let steep for 5 minutes. Add the lemon juice and honey if desired. For a vegan option, or if you have a Pitta dominant constitution, use rice syrup instead. Slowly sip. Do not eat anything for at least 30 minutes to allow the lemonade to reach your whole digestive system and do its magic.

How to make crystal infused water

Place your desired mineral crystal in a glass pitcher or a glass of water. Cover and let sit overnight. In the morning take the crystal out and use it again or wipe it dry.
